What will formal recruitment look like?
The details of the new model for Formal Recruitment during Fall 2023 can be found under the Fall 2023 Full Schedule tab above! Please be patient with scheduling details if this tab has not been updated yet. Am I eligible to go through Formal Recruitment?
You are required to be a female identifying, full-time undergraduate student at Western University (including affiliate colleges). What if I have to miss part of recruitment?
Just let us know! Send us an email at info@uwosororities.com, or make note of it when you register for recruitment. We will work with PNMs and their schedules for class conflicts, religious holidays, university athletic conflicts, and, at the recruitment team's discretion, "once-in-a-lifetimes" (family weddings, etc.) What should I wear during recruitment?
Wear what you feel most comfortable in and what best expresses who you are! No dress code is enforced for PNMs, but feel free to ask your Rho Gamma for advice during recruitment this fall or check out uwosororities on instagram for inspo. When is the last day to register for Formal Recruitment?
Registration for Formal Recruitment will close September 24th at 11:59 PM PST. What is it like being part of a sorority?
Joining a sorority is similar to joining a club at Western, only it means you are part of a larger international organization with members across the continent and decades of history and tradition. Each sorority has a cause they fundraise for, participates in philanthropic events, hosts social gatherings, etc. Beyond that, you build strong friendships with your sisters and others in the Greek community that lasts a lifetime! You can always find Western Greeks sporting letters around campus. Am I guaranteed a bid if I go through Formal Recruitment?
Unfortunately, the UWO Panhellenic Council cannot guarantee you will receive a bid if you go through Recruitment. We have many people who go through the process, but each sorority only has so many spots they can fill. Don’t let that scare you though, if you build a connection during Recruitment you will naturally find a place you belong! ☺ Do I need to live in the house to join a sorority?
No, it is not mandatory to live in the sorority house if you join. Did we miss something? Got more questions? Let us know! Email info@uwosororities.com |
Will I still be able to participate in recruitment if I won't be in London in the fall?
Unfortunately, no. Formal recruitment will be following an in-person structure for Fall 2023 and therefore PNMs will need to be on campus in order to participate. Is there a fee to participate in recruitment? Why?
All PNMs participating in formal recruitment are required to pay a non-refundable fee of $25. This fee goes towards hosting recruitment, arranging transportation, securing venues and the online platforms used to hold recruitment, organize recruitment registration and to facilitate the mutual selection process. How do I know if my registration was received?
Once you submit your registration, you'll receive a confirmation email. If you don't receive the email, or if you have any questions, please email info@uwosororities.com. How do sorority dues work for new and initiated members?
Financial obligations vary from chapter to chapter, but typically, a new (uninitiated) member's dues will be highest during her first quarter or first year in her chapter, as there are often one-time ritual fees, national dues, and the like charged in that period. In general, dues typically include some meals at the chapter house, if applicable; contributions for event planning (from social to sisterhood to philanthropy); professional and personal development workshops hosted by the chapter; and often more - because chapter finances vary, we strongly encourage PNMs to ask active members about finances during recruitment! Also, feel free to check out the Chapter Financial Information page on their respective websites. Will I be able to balance sorority life with other extra-curriculars?
How involved you become with your sorority depends on you, how much you put in is how much you get out of your experience. Members can get involved in their sorority through leadership opportunities such as the executive council, director positions, and volunteer opportunities. Sororities usually have mandatory weekly meetings, however, you will learn more about each sorority's schedule during Formal Recruitment. In addition to sorority life, many members are involved at Western through clubs, intramural teams, varsity sports, charities, and more! Why should I go through Formal Recruitment?
You have absolutely nothing to lose, but so much to gain! Many sorority women have said joining a sorority was the best decision they ever made, because it introduced them to a genuine support system and provided amazing opportunities. Sorority life introduces you to a network of people in all majors, clubs, and organizations. Even the Recruitment process alone can be truly fulfilling when you build friendships with other Potential New Members. Western Sororities have a zero-tolerance position on hazing. We believe in building sisterhood through trust, acceptance, and friendship. If you experience hazing or suspect hazing on our campus, you can submit an anonymous report to the Hazing Hotline: 1-888-668-4293. For hazing concerns or any other issues you would like to discuss privately, you can contact the Panhellenic Advisors directly at info@uwosororities.com.
